Every Bride Should Have These on Her Wedding Day

No matter how well you plan, a wedding day always has a few surprises: a loose hook, a smudged lip, a sudden shower, a headache at the worst moment. Most of these are tiny problems that become big only when you have nothing at hand to fix them.

A well-packed emergency kit, carried by a trusted bridesmaid or family member, lets you handle those moments quietly without stopping the day. Here is what we would suggest, based on what commonly goes wrong at weddings of every style, from Poruwa ceremonies to hotel receptions.

Outfit repairs and comfort

Your outfit is likely to be worn for many hours, and a saree, osari or gown moves a lot more than you expect. Pack these first.

  • Safety pins in several sizes, and a small sewing kit with thread matching your outfit
  • Double-sided fashion tape for necklines and blouse edges
  • Spare hooks, hairpins and bobby pins in your hair colour
  • A lint roller or sticky tape for dust and loose threads
  • Comfortable flat shoes or slippers for the reception and photographs
  • Blister plasters and a small pot of anti-chafe balm

Beauty touch-ups

Ask your makeup artist to tell you exactly which products to carry, as they know what they used. In general, a small selection will cover most needs.

  • Your lipstick and a lip balm
  • Blotting papers and a pressed powder, especially for humid days
  • Cotton buds and tissues for quick fixes
  • A travel-size hairspray and a small comb
  • Deodorant and a light perfume or body mist
  • Waterproof mascara or eyeliner if you expect happy tears, which you probably do

Health and wellbeing

Long ceremonies, early mornings and warm weather can be tiring. Looking after yourself is not a luxury; it is how you stay present enough to enjoy the day.

  • Water bottle with a straw, so you can drink without disturbing your lipstick
  • Light snacks such as nuts, biscuits or fruit, because many brides forget to eat
  • Any personal medication, plus simple pain relief and something for an upset stomach
  • Feminine hygiene products, packed even if you do not expect to need them
  • A small hand fan or compact umbrella for sun or sudden rain

Practical odds and ends

These small items rarely appear on checklists but are often the ones people reach for.

  • A phone charger or power bank
  • Cash in small notes for tips and unexpected costs
  • Printed timeline with contact numbers for the vendors and family coordinators
  • Your vows or speech notes, and a pen
  • Rings, jewellery and a small pouch to keep them safe while changing
  • A few resealable bags and a small towel

Packing it well

Use a sturdy bag with a zip and a few small pouches, so that sewing items, beauty products and medication are each easy to find. Label the bag with your name and a phone number, and pack it the night before rather than on the morning of the wedding, when everyone is rushed.

If you are travelling between venues, for example from a hotel to a ceremony site and then to a reception, keep a second small bag in the car with a change of shoes, spare water and any items you will need later in the evening. It takes five minutes to prepare and can save a stressful search.

Finally, test what you can in advance. Try your shoes for a full evening at home, make sure your blouse or gown can be adjusted quickly, and check that your jewellery fastenings are secure. A kit is most useful when it solves the problems that rehearsal could not.

The people and details that matter most

The best item in your kit is a calm person who is responsible for it. Choose one bridesmaid, sister or friend to carry the bag and know where everything is, so you are never searching.

Also keep a few sentimental items close: a handwritten note from your partner, a family keepsake, or something old and something borrowed if that tradition is meaningful to you. These make wonderful close-up details for your photographs and wedding film.

Finally, give your cinematographer the final timeline and tell them where you will be getting ready. When the morning is organised and unhurried, the preparation moments are some of the most beautiful and natural parts of any wedding film.
